Why is my car hesitant in first gear?

I have a 2009 Peugeot 308D SW with 65,000 miles on the clock. I drive 30 miles a day on a dual carriage way at motorway speeds. Over the past 12 months the engine has developed a problem described by my local Peugeot dealer as “car hesitant when taking off in first and second gear”.

They have had two technicians look at this, but they cannot diagnose the fault. As a result, I am stuck with this very irritating situation as stalling sometimes occurs if I am not quick enough on the throttle. Their suggestion is to have a new turbo but at a quoted price of £1500 is a bit steep for the possibility of not curing the problem. What do you suggest?

If the turbo is suspected, then at least replace the oil feed pipe from the crankcase to the turbo bearing. It is quite common for carbon to accumulate inside them, restricting the flow of oil to the turbo bearing.
