How often should I have the tracking adjusted?

Over the years, with various cars, whenever I have had tyres replaced the garage invariably ask whether I want the tracking adjusted.

How often would you suggest this is necessary? Every year; whenever tyres are changed; or only if something indicates a problem?

Only is if something indicates a problem. Messing with it can cause more harm than good.
