Cam chain failure on Golf GTI

The tensioner on the cam chain of my 2009 Volkwagen Golf GTI have failed after 50,000 miles. The car has a full service history (on 10,000 miles/one year service intervals)and the dealer has quoted £1300 to replace chain and tensioner, which includes a £900 goodwill contribution. Should I accept this given the tensioner is a known problem for the early GTi mk6s as mentioned on your website and various forums?
Unless you are prepared to take the colossal VAG organisation to court, you have to accept it. However, you might mention to Volkswagen Customer Services that it has now admitted to a problem with the manufacture of the timing chains (details in the Golf VI entry in car by car) and that might help (www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/volkswagen/golf-vi-2...d 6-8-2014)
