Insurance value of written off car is too low - what can I do?

I bought a Peugeot 308 SW in March for £16,700. The car was discounted as it was old stock prior to a change of design. As you might expect, I took out fully comprehensive insurance and the cover included new for old replacement.

In July the car was written off in an accident in which the other driver and their insurer accepted liability. At that time the car had clocked up around 3500 miles.

However, now my insurer is saying they will only give me £13,000 and not a new replacement, as the model has changed. I can't even get a used version of the car for the settlement figure. What can I do?

Read your policy very carefully because they will probably have covered themselves against this. If not, take the matter to the Insurance Ombudsman.
