Buying new or nearly new small, four door car.

I am looking for a new or nearly new small, four door car. A couple of times a week, I need to commute for a few hours so a bit of comfort and safety would be great but otherwise, it will be a runaround. Can I get a good deal on a nearly new car or is it worth spending the money on something new? A deposit is not an issue, are dealers are willing to do finance on a nearly new car?

I saw a 12k miles 2002/62 VW Take Up 5 door sell at auction last week for £5,300, which suggests a dealer price around £6,500. They'll always sell you finance because they get a commission out of the deal.
