Can I drive my 2004 Ford Focus TDCi with a failing dual mass flywheel?

I have just taken my Ford Focus TDCi 2004 model to a lad I I know who is a mechanic at Ford. The car was making a funny noise when I put the clutch down, and I could feel a sort of grinding though the clutch. He said it's the dual mass flywheel and that with his discount at Ford he could get it done for £600. However, I don't have the money at the moment and he said I could carry on driving around, as it will not collapse or will not damage anything else. I was just after a second opinion on this subject as I don't want to go writing my car off on a single man's say so.

We'd suggest taking it to another garage and getting a second opinion on whether there's a fault and work would be required.
