Gas smell after change of pollen filter

My daughter's Kia Cee'd has a strong smell (like gas) in her car. The dealership recently changed her pollen filter and say there is nothing wrong, just that more smells come through the new filter. Rubbish surely. The smell makes one feel quite ill.
The pollen filter should be situated in the vent well where is should not be affected by any engine fumes, but will be affected by contaminated screenwash fluid. Try blasting all the old screenwash out of the reservoir with a hosepipe and replacing. You can now actually get perfumed screenwash.
