Can you suggest a used car with low depreciation?

I am in the Forces and will be posted abroad next summer. Between now and then I have to commute 400 miles per week and want to buy a medium sized family car that I can sell after a year (before we leave the UK) without losing too much on the depreciation.

Although the car will be used mainly by me, it needs to fit our two toddlers in easily and safely. Economy is important as is reasonably tasty performance to stop me from getting too bored on the M4. Any suggestions? My budget is £10,000.

You're effectively looking at 15,000 - 20,000 miles. Putting that on any car will severely affect its value. For toddlers you need five-doors or you or your wide will damage your back lifting them in and out. I think it has to be a diesel. I'd be looking at a KIA cee'd or Hyundai i30 1.6CRDI.
