New car covered in scratches - should I reject it?
I took delivery of a new Audi A1 three months ago. After several weeks I noticed tiny marks on the bonnet. The car was subsequently taken to the dealer’s workshop in an attempt to polish the marks out. The result is that the car now has scratches from their machine polisher added to the marks. The dealer is offering to respray the car, but I’m not sure what my options are. Can I reject the car or do I have to settle for a respray?

This is a problem caused by EC environmental legislation that has forced car paint to become water based rather than solvent based. If the car is repainted, then the paint will be thicker than the factory finish and may be better protected by a solvent based lacquer. So a respray actually makes more sense than a rejection.
