Buying a new SUV - Nissan Qashqai or Mazda CX-5?

I am looking to purchase a new SUV for both work and long runs to Scotland to see the in-laws. I have narrowed the search to a Nissan Qashqa (1.5d or 1.6d) or the Mazda CX-5.

Having driven both the CX-5 wins in driving and power, with the Qashqai feeling a little sluggish with the 1.5 diesel. The CX-5 also wins in space terms. However, I have read mixed reports about the real world MPG of the CX5 compared to the Qashqai. The Nissan also has more kit as standard. Which car would you choose?

Forget the 1.5DCI. The 1.6DCI is the engine to have. It was an all new state of the art deisgn about four years ago and should be more economical then the CX-5. I got a real life 49mpg over 14,000 miles in a Mazda 6 Skyactiv 2.2 150D automatic. manuals are about 10mpg better. See Real mpg for what CX5s are getting: 47 for the manual 2WD; 41 for the manual 4WD.
