First time buyer - any recommendations?

I'm a first time buyer who passed his test four years ago with no driving experience since. However, I've recently landed a job that requires a collective 70 mile per day commute and need to buy a car.

I'm absolutely clueless about cars but I've done research and narrowed it down to the Volkswagen Polo, Ford Fiesta or Seat Ibiza - I would be buying nearly new preferably and just wondered which would be best in terms of daily motorway travel, sturdiness, ease to drive and insurance of those three?

The Fiesta diesel is a 1.6 Econetic. The VAG 1.2 diesel isn't as good as it's cracked up to be. A good alternative is a KIA Rio 1.2 diesel. That's really economical, and a good looking, solid little car.
