Can you recommend a 'smooth' small car?

I am 80 years old and own a Volkswagen Up auto, which I want to replace. I really don't like the Up and want a smooth automatic for town driving. Can you recommend a car?

You should have checked with www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar before you bought. Swap it for a Hyundai i10 auto or a KIA Picanto auto, both of which are conventional torque converter four-speed autos. Alternatively, you could learn to drive your automated manual Up. It emulates a driver changing gears, but cushions the upward changes to protect the transmission. If you anticipate that it will do this, you can drive it smoothly. If, whenever it hesitates, you press the pedal harder, then your progress will be in a series of uncomfortable lurches.
