BMW 1 Series - is it reliable?

I am interested in buying a BMW 2008 1 Series M Sport 116i, does the n47 engine chain failure apply to this model or is it mostly diesel engines?

Most information on this subject is technical and I just want to know the particular models that are affected by this issue.

See the car by car entries at www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar. And please avoid MSport specification on a lowly 116i. All you get is a harder ride and tyres that wear out faster, are more susceptible to damage and are more expensive to replace. Far better an SE or ES.
