Audi A3 Sportback - which wheel size is best?

I am buying a new Audi A3 Sportback Sport which can be specified only with 17-inch wheels and 225/45 R17 tyres. I have de-selected Sports suspension as I value ride quality over the ability to go round corners like a go-kart. I am wondering whether the car's ride could be improved further by fitting 16-inch wheels with 205/55 R16 tyres, as on the SE version?

The ride would be smoother and less likely to pick up sharp imperfections in the road surface. But this A3 has the proper multilink rear suspension and that actually improves the ride of these cars already over VAG MQB cars with the simpler twist beam rear suspension.
