Replacement for Passat diesel automatic?

We have had two Volkswagen Passat saloons and find that the 2.0-litre TDI combined with the DSG gearbox to be a good combination. In considering a replacement, it again must be automatic and possibly an estate.

Our annual mileage is probably no longer sufficient to justify a diesel and would avoid potential DPF problems. However, I'm concerned that a petrol engine would not be such a good partner for the DSG. What do you think we should buy?

If you like Golfs and Passats and have has no trouble with them, then stick with them. The latest EA211 1.4TSI 122 and 140ACT are excellent engines. Almost unbelievably smooth at low revs and work well with the seven-speed DSG. Tested in the new Golf SV here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/volkswagen/volkswa.../
