Is my car beyond repair?

My 2005 Mazda 5 packed up last Friday, with big shuddering and smoke coming out of the engine. I called the AA and I’ve been told it is most likely the head gasket and the engine is beyond repair. If the engine is broken, should I consider getting a new one or would this be a waste of money?

It's worth about £150 as scrap, maybe £200. www.apiengines.com might be able to source you a second hand engine from Japan, or from the UK. You don't say petrol or diesel. They will need to know.
