Why does my Vauxhall Vectra slow down sharply when I take my foot off the accelerator?

When I take my foot off the gas, my Vauxhall Vectra drops speed as if I'm pressing the brakes. I've checked the brakes aren't sticking, there is no free play in the ball joints, there's no noise from the driveshafts and all the CV gaiters are in mint condition (no tears or worn patches). What can the problem be?

I can't understand that. But I wonder if it is something to do with the brake vacuum servo which, on a petrol engine, fills with vacuum from the inlet manifold.

Far better than previous Vectra. Now with decent handling and an excellent ride. Plenty of safety kit. Roomy in the front. Big boot. Good looks.
