BMW Z3 motor/pump failure - how do I fix it?

I have a 1998 BMW Z3. It has just failed its MoT due to the ABS/traction control light being on. The garage couldn't fix it and say the diagnostics show that the motor/pump has gone.

I do know that over the past 12 month this has been a bit of an intermittent problem that's occurred four or five times and has gone out. Do I need to replace this unit or is there a cure I can do?
