Buying a Mazda 5 - diesel or petrol?

We are a young family looking to move to a bigger car to carry all of the paraphernalia associated with our two young children (currently we own a Honda Jazz). We regularly have to park in narrow car parks, so the Mazda 5 appeals with its sliding doors.

We only drive about 6500 miles a year, but we intend to keep the car a long time. A diesel would eventually pay for itself, but I am worried about DPF problems. (The Mazda 5 diesel apparently uses a Peugeot engine that uses an additive to help DPF regeneration).

How problematic are modern diesels in this regard? Would I better off with the petrol?

I ran one of these (a TS2) for a year and 11,000 miles with no problems at all. It was an excellent vehicle. Don't know if it uses Eolys to regenerate or simply has a coated DPF. Can tell you I never had any problems with mine, and averaged 50mpg.
