Buying a 4x4 to cope with flood aftermath

Unexpectedly, I urgently need to swap my Ford Focus (56 plate Zetec Climate, 1.8 petrol 57k miles) for a car with four wheel drive and much more ground clearance. We live at the end of a steep farm track that has been affected by a landslip caused by the floods and the Focus can no longer cope with it. The road won't improve in the forseeable future.

As this change is unplanned, I only have the trade in value in the Focus to use to buy the replacement. Are dealers likely to be interested in a straight swap like this?

Can you please give me an idea of what the Focus will be worth and what you would recommend I buy with that to meet my needs?

You're over a barrel. Your car trades at about £2,750 and there aren't many 4x4s you can pick up for that sort of money. Maybe an older Suzuki Grand Vitara or a Nissan Terrano II. Avoid being tempted by Freelanders.
