How can I dispute a parking ticket I received due to a faulty machine?

I recently used a local multi story car park and the pay machine touch screen did not recognise any part of my registration number after several attempts, and eventually the screen in question displayed no charge and, in the absence of any attendants, I had no choice but to leave. I have today received a parking fine for £35 if I pay within 28 days or £75 if I don't. I have asked them for irrefutable evidence that it was my intention to defraud them or refuse to pay the £1.50 parking charge. What would you suggest please?

Simply write back to them stating that due to their gross negligence their machine was not working and that you refuse to pay for this type of entrapment, and if they pursue the matter further you will meet them in the Small Claims Track of the County Court and will counterclaim for your wasted time.
