Am I asking for DPF problems if I buy a Jaguar XF or BMW 3 Series diesel?

As a mature motorist looking for a little late in life luxury I have been looking at the Jaguar XF Sport or Luxury 2.2 diesel. As I will not be doing more than about 6000 miles a year am I asking for Diesel Particulate Filter problems? I have also looked at BMW 3 Series coupe (or new 4 Series) and I like the look of the Mercedes-Benz CLA Sports. Have you any advice before I spend all of my pension?

Unless the diesel engine is exhaust-manifold-in-head, repeated short runs from cold starts are likely to result in DPF problems so, long-term, you would be better off with a petrol engine. The reason for the current shortage of petrol engines is EC CO2 regulations that impose fines on car manufacturers if their corporate average CO2 is more than 130g/km. Diesels generally emit less CO2, hence the dearth of big cars with petrol engines. Jaguar is working on new 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines for Jaguars and Land Rovers. So is Volvo, and so is Ford.

Wonderful and bespoke feeling interior. Amazingly quiet and refined. More economical 2.2 diesel from 2011. Navigation not fitted as standard on most models.
Brilliant to drive, powerful and fuel-efficient engines, good interior space and practicality.
