Where can I have my Peugeot 407's ASC/ABS module repaired?

We have a 2007 Peugeot 407 with 73,000 miles and just after the MoT about three weeks ago a light appeared on the instrument panel indicating the ASC was off. We have taken it to the local Peugeot dealer who tells us that a sensor has failed in the unit that operates the ABS and the ASC. However, the whole unit has to be replaced at a cost of about £1600 plus about £300 in labour for the 3.5 hours needed to take out the old unit and install the new one. In the meantime the vehicle can be driven safely, but it will fail its next MoT unless we get it repaired. Either way, we lose £2000 if we repair it or part-exchange the car. Is there a cheaper way?

Yes. This will be a Teves Mk 60 ABS/ESP module and the common failure is the brake pressure sensor. Various independent specialists will repair it from £250 - £400. However, this does not include the cost of removing and re-fitting the module. Try: www.ecutesting.com, www.bba-reman.com and www.sinspeed.co.uk (there may be more).
