Is it common for the electric parking brake to fail on Land Rover Discovery 4s?

I have a 30-month old Discovery 4 3.0d HSE automatic with 28,000 miles from new, with full supplying dealer history. It has just destroyed its electromechanical parking brake. The dealer thinks the shoes have collapsed (prior to it being recovered there, the manual release wouldn't work), and alluded to it being a common issue. I rarely just drive away using auto release, and normally release it first manually. Do you know about this issue?

Secondly, would a 2004 Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG F1 special have been built in Mercedes poor build period, or do you think it a decent buy at the right price and a possible future classic?

I vaguely know someone who has that Merc SL55 AMG F1. Could be he's the one who is selling it. Quite a lot to go wrong. Personally I prefer the 2006-2008 SL500 because 380PS is plenty, there's less to go wrong and it's more refined.

Yours is the first report received of electromechanical parking brake failure on Discovery 4s, but it was common on Discovery 3s. Explained here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/land-rover/discovery...d
