What caused my Audi TT's window to jam open?

My driver side window regulator recently failed on a 5-year-old Audi TT 2.0 TFSI. It ruined a weekend as the window jammed open and we had to cancel a 200-mile drive. Do you know if this is a common problem on Audi TTs?

I seem to have to answer this question two to three times every week. The ECU that controls the electric windows and locking has been a problem area on VAG cars for at least 20 years. The reason is that it is situated inside the driver's door, which is a very wet place, and eventually it succumbs to moisture ingress.
