I have to contribute to repairing the gearbox in my Audi A3 - is this fair?

My Audi A3 1.4TFSI, bought new from Ridgeway Oxford Audi in 2010, was booked for its third service at 52,000 miles. Just before the service it developed a nasty noise when lifting off the accelerator in gear. After many phone calls to the garage, I was eventually informed that the gearbox had been removed in May 2013 but they did not know when they would be able to strip it down. I demanded and got a courtesy car. Then I was told the car would be ready sometime the following week. I was told that Audi would supply the parts FoC and I would have to contribute £774.60 towards labour. It seems that the differential planetary gear assembly and bearing had failed along with fifth gear syncro ring. Do you think this is fair?

I think it's as fair as you will get from Audi. They have obviously negotiated this. Honda and Toyota tend to be more generous.
