Should I give my Hyundai i10 a long fast run every now and again?

In January 2009 I took your advice and bought a Hyundai i10 1.2 Style. I have never regretted this and my little car has never given me a moment's trouble. It is serviced each year at the Hyundai garage and sails through its MoTs. Because I do mostly short local trips of about four to five miles or even less, and along roads with a thirty or forty mile an hour speed limits, I believe my car needs to have longer faster runs every now and then to prevent something in the engine getting clogged up. How frequently is it necessary to do this? I have got to an age when I avoid going far or fast if I can help it but my daughter who lives locally is named on my insurance and every now and then I ask her to give the car a treat. I don't know if I do it frequently enough though. I have only done 5918 miles so far.

This is not such a problem with small petrol engines as it is with diesel engines. But it will benefit the engine enormously to use Shell V-Power nitro+ petrol. My mother switched to this in her Yaris, used as you use your car, and reported a significant improvement in both performance and fuel economy.
