How can I add fuel additive to my Ford Focus when it has a misfuelling prevention device fitted?

I have a problem with my 2011 Ford Focus 1.6TDCI (old model). When first purchased it gave me 54mpg. 14 months later it has now reduced to 47mpg with the same sort of driving pattern. I have tried to add diesel additive on advice, to the tank, but have found it impossible to open the fuel anti-misfuelling device with screwdriver or similar. I can fill the car with diesel ok but cannot add anything else. Any advice would be appreciated.

All Fords with Easyfuel come with a little funnel for precisely this job. That opens the aperture. If you can't find one anywhere in the car (spare wheel area) then ask your Ford dealer. Could be that simply replacing the engine air filter will fix the problem.
