What could be causing this electrical fault on my 2002 Vauxhall Corsa?

My 2002 Vauxhall Corsa's dashboard lights suddenly cut out several times during each journey. I have had the radio and head unit thoroughly checked and also the car's electrics thoroughly checked by my garage, but no-one seems able to find a fault. Yet the problem is worsening, cutting out as many as six or seven times in a 4-mile journey. It is also increasingly hard to start the car. Any suggestions gratefully received!
