Can you recommend a big car with comfortable seats?

My wife has a bad back so we need a car we step up into rather than bend down. She likes BMW seats and the back needs to accommodate a large dog, so it must be fairly square. It must also be automatic.

We have looked at the BMW X3, X1, Volvo XC60 and Mercedes B-Class. We want to keep the car for at least 8 years. We do about 10,000 miles a year but this is mostly on short tips. The X3 only has diesel engines and we are concerned that we might have problems with the DPF. Can you help?

Given this sort of mileage you might eventually have problems with a diesel. Consider a Toyota RAV-4 2.0i Valvematic Multidrive S. It also gets a five year warranty.
