Best used family car for £4k?

I am looking for a car to replace my ageing Volkswagen Passat. We are a family of three and our next car must have a large boot with enough space for a child’s buggy. I live in London and only drive a few days per week, but want something practical. What do you recommend? I have £4000 to spend.

Economical, reliable and cheap to maintain: a Fiesta 1.25 82PS, previous shape. A Honda Jazz is more expensive, but much more roomy and practical inside.

Well built with an upmarket interior. Enjoyable and involving to drive. Cheap to run 1.6TDCI ECOnetic. Exceptional reliability record. Very few problems reported despite more than 500,000 sold.
Neatly styled. Increased room and better performance than original Jazz. better to drive. Very versatile. CVT-7 returned in February 2011 replacing i-SHIFT. More reliable than first generation Jazz.
