Need a cheap small car with good fuel economy - what do you recommend?

I am starting a new job and will need to commute 25 miles each way. I am looking for a new car that is very fuel efficient (my current 2005 Ford Focus guzzles fuel) and I also need removable air bags so children can sit in the front passenger seat if necessary. Any recommendations?

A Citroen C1 is the cheapest to insure and run, but the Ford Fiesta 1.25 82PS is the most reliable.
