What's wrong with our Skoda Roomster?

We are having problems with our 2008 Skoda Roomster 1.4 petrol with 45,000 miles on the clock. The engine light keeps coming on. The catalytic converter, Lamda sensor and EGR valve have been changed. Cylinder compression is low and the MAP is variable. Do you have any suggestions as to what is wrong and is it worth rebuilding the engine?

Oh, dear. This must be the old 1.4 16v engine that suffered a lot of problems in the Polo. They are covered in the Polo entries in www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar .

You don't really have much choice other than an engine rebuild as the car is virtually worthless without it.
