Skoda Octavia or Volkswagen Golf?

I’m in the market for a new car and my search has come down to a nearly new Volkswagen Golf 1.4 petrol (140PS) with DSG ‘box or for similar money (£2,1500) a brand new Skoda Octavia with the same engine. Which would you buy?

A new Skoda Octavia does not have the same engine. It has the bet cam EA211 1.4TSI. VAG switched from chain to belt because they were having problems with the chain cam 1.4TSIs.

Saloon shape but actually a practical hatchback. Far superior interior quality than previous model.
