Faulty Hyundai i30 gearbox - who should pay for repairs?

My daughter’s 2009 Hyundai i30 developed a gearbox noise, which she reported at the main dealer 12 months ago. At the time the mechanic told her it was nothing and to ignore it. I drove the car today and in 20 yards told her that the clicking noise sounded like a bearing breaking up, probably on the first motion shaft in that it is input speed and goes when the clutch is depressed.

The garage want it for three days to diagnose the fault and say that the warranty may not cover it, even though it still has 12 months of warranty left. Is this a known problem please, and can you recommend a course of action?

Not a well known problem and of course the garage will resist a warranty claim, but if, as you say, a bearing is failing then it has to be covered by the Hyundai warranty. If they start messing you about then you'll have to sue the Hyundai dealer you originally bought the car from.
