Need a medium sized SUV - which is best?

We’re looking to buy a medium sized SUV. It must have space for large dog and a couple of kids. We drive about 14,000 miles a year including a daily work commute totalling 28 miles over half of which is motorway.

I’ve tested the Mazda CX5, but find it bland and dislike the large wheels with low profile tyres. We will be buying nearly new with a £20,000 budget. Can you recommend a good car that will look nice too?

I had a CX-5 150d Sport Nav on the 19-inch wheels and found the handling benefit outweighed the ride compromise. It is at least still on 55 profiles. Limited choice of nearly news for under £20,000.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I rate the KIA Sportage as the best looker, and you can get that on 16-inch wheels with deep profile tyres.
