Timing chain issue with Nissan X-Trail

My Nissan X-Trail has broken down in France. The engine just died and I coasted to a stop. I found a local garage who diagnosed a timing chain problem and wants to strip the engine down to investigate.

However, I thought this engine was a "non interference" type and therefore I had hoped the damage would be minimal - especially as there was no noise when the engine died. Can you advise further?

Well there was a known problem with the timing chain tensioner ( subject to recall) but that was on the earlier models( up to 2002)

If as you say the garage has diagnosed the timing chain, then it may then require further investigation by stripping.
