Does the Hyundai Santa Fe have a history of expensive clutch failures?

My 2006 Santa Fe CRTD CDX has 71,000 miles and had been parked a little earlier on my driveway, but would not move off. It was possible to engage all gears but there was no drive. The vehicle was towed to my local Hyundai dealer and the problem was diagnosed as a worn clutch, which was replaced. I have now been presented with a bill for £1,153.99 which includes £295.80p for a new slave cylinder. I have been informed that this repair is not covered by the warranty as these are 'wear' items. I find it strange that there was no evidence whatsoever of any clutch slip or difficulty engaging any of the gears prior to the failure. Is this a previously documented failure with this model and should I simply settle the account?

There are no reports of this on either the old model (www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/hyundai/santa-fe-200...d) or the new one: (www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/hyundai/santa-fe-ii-...d)

If you think something doesn't quite add up, you should get in touch with Hyundai UK in the first instance and take it from there. We'll make a note of your problems for other owners. You may want to add an owners' review to tell others of your experience. To do this, simply click the "Add Review" tab in the Santa Fe review.
