Timing chain issues on BMW 118d?

I have a December 2009 BMW 118d with 50,000 miles. I've seen increasing reports on forums about the timing chains snapping to the extent that it seems inevitable on all models with this engine - people are recommending selling the cars. I change the engine oil every 10,000 miles as a precaution. Should I be that concerned, I really wanted to keep the car for several more years?
I think the reason is insufficiently frequent oil changes and if you are changing your oil and filter at least every year or 10k miles you won't have the problems sufferd by drivers who change their oil every 15k - 25k miles on tlc servicing.
