Jag S Type diesel - a sensible used buy?

I am thinking about buying a used Jaguar S Type 2.7 Diesel with manaul gearbox if I can find a good one. Is this car a sensible used buy, and can you confirm whether any of the early models were in "pre-Euro IV" spec, i.e. without catalytic converters, EGR valves etc, which are known to be a source of expensive trouble on most modern diesels?

I previously had a pre Euro IV X-type 2.0D, which was an excellent car and ran up 180,000 trouble-free miles in 4 years. I've heard that the later Euro IV compliant X-type diesels were noisier and more troublesome, hence my question about the availability of a non Euro IV compliant S-Type diesel.

Very hard indeed to find a manual. And very hard to find one without a DPF. I did not think any were pre-DPF, but I have been contradicted. All have EGRs. And the engines are timing belt so this too will need replacing at some time.
