Economic auto with boot space for a pram £2000-£3000 budget!

Looking for a new motor for my wife, bought her a 2003 Fiesta Semi Auto 9 months ago and the TCU and ECU have gone on it and so we've had to get rid of it.

Looking to buy her a new car, my first choice was Jazz although I'm unsure on the CVT gearbox, since the Fiesta I've become wary of semi-autos and would prefer fully auto.

We have looked at Micras (2003-2005) and my wife loves them and the pram will fit in the boot (just). Are these a safe bet?

The road tax on Micras isn't as good as we got on the Fiesta (Group H as opposed to Group E) but it seems unless you buy a Jazz you aren't going to find another car with good fuel economy and low tax in our price range.

Just to add she will mainly use this for town journeys!

No. K12 Micras are a potential disaster area with a umber of very expensive failures. Jazz has a proper CVT-7 automatic transmissions and are reliable but obviously this depends on how old they are and how much you pay for them. The best automatic car in this class is a Toyota Yaris 1.3 4-speed torque converter auto, but the market knows they are the best and they are priced accordingly.
