Buying a friends' low-mile Shogun?

A friend has offered us first refusal on their 2003 Mitsubishi Shogun SWB Equipe 3.2 Diesel with just 15k miles on the clock.

It is obviously a very low mileage for the year however this is because it's essentially a 'third' car. On the handful of occasions each year when it does leave the garage the trips have always been of at least 100 miles and generally more.

We are familiar with the Shogun having driven it a number of times over the past five years and would like to know what would be a fair price to offer. The vehicle is in VGC and has no extras added.

Obviously we don't want to pay over the odds but neither do we want to make a derisory or too low an offer.

Also, should we have any concerns in taking on the ownership of a 10 year old vehicle which has spent most of its time sitting in a garage?

That's quite an interesting prospect. The actual use of the car has been okay. But there will be condensation corrosion to brake pipes, brake discs, brake calipers - all sorts of things for having been left sitting in the cold and not run up to temperature very often.

Might also need a battery. Assuming an Equipe model, £6,180 retail and £4,110 trade plus £2,000 for the low miles.
