Problematic Audi - where do I stand?

I bought an Audi A4 Avant S-line from the Audi Dealership in Worthing in October last year. It had 12 months approved waranty. From the day I picked the car up I noticed the following faults - large chip in the windscreen, sat nav DVD drive continued to be active for long periods after the car was stopped and locked, gearbox was 'clunky,' second gear was particularly hard to get into and there was excessive vibration on the motorway, as well as noisy brakes on motorway.

I never got to test the car on the motorway which is probably why I didn't pick up on these faults on the test drive.

I had a lot of trouble getting Worthing Audi to sort the issues. They got the windscreen refilled eventually (it turned out it had been done before so could only be so good).

They couldn't diagnose the fault on the sat nav so I sent the car in to my local Audi dealership who could, but said it needed a new sat nav (recon as they don't make my model anymore).

Worthing Audi wouldn't pay for my local dealership to fit it so the car had to go to them again (a long way from me). Worthing also never agreed the brakes were a problem. My local dealership did and put a new set on the front for free.

The gearbox issue is ongoing. My local dealership has agreed several times that it's not right and has tried a number of different things to fix it. These include realignment and changing the syncros. They have also done a couple of other things on different occassions but I can't remember what these were without contacting them.

None of these have fixed the gearbox and it remains 'industrial' in feel. I've had my brother drive the car, he's much more experienced with cars having been around motor racing and car sales for large periods of his life. He agrees it's not right. My local dealership obviously agree too or they wouldn't have put so much time into trying to fix it.

Where do I stand with this? I'm at a point now where I would like a replacement car but I would want the 12 month warranty on it after this experience. I know Audi is meant to offer you your money back if it can't fix a fault that was discovered in the first month - which the gearbox was?

Worthing Audi was so unhelpful over the windscreen and sat nav and my local dealership has at least tried to fix the issues so I gave up communicating with Worthing.

Having liased with Audi UK they've finally said I have to take it up with Worthing as that's where I bought the car. In general this seems like a lot of faults for an Audi approved car.

Your problem with this is that the car has not actually suffered a mechanical breakdown. It's that you and the friendly Audi dealer feel that something is wrong with the car. Depending on how much you paid for it, you could take the matter to the small claims track of the county court where the limit is now £10,000. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/ If the car is worth more than £10k I do not advise legal action because it could end up costing you £15k with no guarantee of success.
