Bought a Volvo S80 with electrical problems - how can I make the dealer repair the faults?

Earlier this year I purchased a low mileage Volvo S80 SE from a Volvo dealership with a year's warranty remaining from new. Almost immediately I had a problem with the electronics, which are quite sophisticated. Acting on a hunch I decided to log my concerns in writing to the dealership. They took the car in and made several adjustments but, a short time after, I was still experiencing problems and the car has been back to the dealership several times since. The latest problems are to do with the satnav system, which locks me out, the fuel pipe access flap, which opens whilst in transit, and a loss of dashboard display, again while in motion.

Last week Volvo looked at these faults again and said they could not find a problem and I am convinced they think either I am making it up or at best don't know what I am doing. On getting the car back last week I checked the satnav whilst still on their forecourt and it worked. I drove a few miles on the M4 before returning home and it locked me out again before I got home. Two days later it freed itself whilst I was in motion. The following day it locked up again. The dealership said they would contact their Head Office and advise but a week on and I am still waiting.

All I can do is advise you of your rights, which are detailed here: honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/

Because the faults were present in the car when you bought it, the Supreme Court ruling in Clegg v Olle Anderson (trading as Nordic Marine) 2003 applies. But you might find that the dealer contests this on the grounds he cannot find anything wrong. So you need independent evidence from an expert witness that there is something wrong.
