Should we sell our 2010 Golf diesel before we suffer DMF problems?

We purchased a 2010 Golf 1.6TDI in September 2011 with 10,000 miles. It has now done 15,000 miles without any problems. My wife only does a low mileage and she usually keeps a car for seven or eight years. Your recent comments about diesel particulate filters, dual mass flywheels and exhaust gas recirculation valves concern me. Should we sell the TDI now and buy a TSI, or carry on and see what happens over the next few years?

You've done it now, so carry on and see what happens. My comments are mainly to warn people of the consequences of buying ex-fleet diesels at three years old with 60,000 - 80,000 miles on them. They won't have been any trouble to the fleets, and will have been economical for company drivers. But they are often resold to the public at the point when the problems on my list are just about to start.
