Do the KIA Sportage or Nissan Qashai have any particular problems?

I am about to change my car. I can spend in the region of £20,000 plus whatever I can get for my 2004 Mondeo Ghia X 2.0TDCI with 46,000 miles. I tow a small caravan occasionally and my current annual mileage is about 8000. I am reasonably impressed with the Nissan Qashqai and the KIA Sportage. Can the extra expense of a diesel engine be justified in consideration of the details above?

Despite the fact they are fitted with DPFs, I have yet to hear of any trouble with the DPFs on KIA Sportages and Hyundai ix35s. But the Qashqai fitted with the new Renault 1.6 DCI 140 engine should be your best bet because it uses new technology (actually F1 Renault engine technology) to heat up very quickly and manage its EGR and DPF so they don't cause trouble. Prices range from £20,000 for the 2WD to £25,000 for the top spec 4WD.
