How is DrivetheDeal able to offer such good prices?

Having obtained a car quote from 'Drivethedeal' I offered my large local dealer the opportunity to give me a price too, if they wanted to (I disclosed the DtD figure). They opted to do so but couldn't match it. I have used DtD before entirely satisfactorily, so I know they are totally above board. If my local dealer is being truthful, how does DtD do it? Or are the locals being less than straight with me?

The reason for the greater discount is that DrivetheDeal puts so much business through a particular dealer, that the dealer can then get volume discounts from the manufacturer.
