What do you think of the Volkswagen 2.5-litre diesel engine?

What can you tell me about the Volkswagen 2.5-litre diesel engine and Tiptronic automatic gearbox? Any problems you are aware of? This is in connection with the purchase of a four-year-old California camper van with 13,500 miles on the clock.

Not bad. This is a gear train diesel engine, so it has no timing belt or timing chain, but can suffer water pump failures. The Tiptronic autobox is a traditional, reliable torque converter. High CO2 tax, though, if it's classed and taxed as a car. More here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/volkswagen/t5-carave.../
