Where can I have my Mercedes-Benz 280E's air conditioning repaired cheaply?

I have a Mercedes-Benz 280E CDI Estate that is three and a half years old. Whilst in France the air conditioning broke down and I was informed by a French garage that it would cost 1,900 Euros to repair. I contacted a UK main agent and they stated that to replace the compressor alone the cost would be £1300. I have read your column over many years and I recall that you recommended to a reader that there are specialist repairers of A/C units. Am I correct? If so could you please recommend somebody in my area who could carry out the repair at a reasonable price?

Yes, here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/air-conditioning/ . If all that has failed is the clutch, then that is all that needs to be replaced and the work should not cost more than £150.
