Is it realistic for the dash cluster to fail on my 7-year-old Honda Accord?

I was driving my Honda Accord when the dashboard lights went out briefly. This occurred again on the same journey only they were off for a little longer. I contacted my local Honda Garage at Stratford upon Avon who examined the car a couple of days later. The outcome was that the Dash Cluster PCB would need replacing if the problem occurred again. The price for replacement would be £829.06 inc.

My car was first registered in March 2005 and has done just over 69,100 miles. Servicing has been done as required. I know that the car is approaching seven years old but I feel that the equipment fitted should last the life of the vehicle. A member of the staff states that they can only remember one instance of this piece of equipment failing before. The vehicle is due for a major service and an MoT, but I was considering replacing it before then, but if I have to replace the cluster for £829 then replacement would be out of the question. Do you think I have grounds to approach the manufacturer about this matter?

Nothing to do with the manufacturer. The car is long past the date when the manufacturer has any responsibility for it at all. Try these people instead: www.clusterrepairsuk.co.uk
